2018 PINOT NOIR, PERRYGULCH

ANDERSON VALLEY ESTATE

“Bright and light ruby color. The aromas are earthy, spicy with pennyroyal, cinnamon, and an immediacy on the palate. This combination returns with ripe black cherry, strawberry, and a black tea touch. Complex and intriguing, this wine shows class. The palate is smooth and with texture adding freshness and precision with a clean fresh finish of ample length.” – Stéphane Vivier

90 Points, Decanter

“Earthy and restrained style with red cherry, cola, violet, intriguing pepperiness, and savory elements. Notable minerality and
fine tannins.”

GROWING SEASON

2018 will be remembered as a colder and slower season in Anderson Valley, producing wines with profound elegance and delicacies. Bud break started about a month later than the last 5 vintages, and at a date recognized as being more in line with the historical averages. A mild spring allowed for a nice crop set and it was followed with a “cold” summer for Northern California standard. It resulted in slow maturing and perfect conditions for Chardonnay & Pinot Noir, retaining freshness while developing intricate complexity of flavors.

ANDERSON VALLEY ESTATE – SOIL SERIES

We grow the fruit for Long Meadow Ranch Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays among the rolling, mineral-rich slopes of Mendocino County’s Anderson Valley. Nestled against the banks of the Navarro River and dense groves of Coast Redwoods, our vineyards benefit from some of California’s best conditions for Burgundian grape varieties. But perhaps our favorite aspect of our vineyards is the diversity in soil types, and the opportunity it has presented to showcase many different faces of these wines we love.

FELIZ, CHARDONNAY
In the part of the vineyard flanked on one side by the Navarro River, lives our Chardonnay. Feliz is a fine loam that is well-draining and the darkest in color of the estate’s three dominant soil types. Chardonnay grown in Feliz loam tends to express a fresh vibrancy in the glass as well as a minerality that we love in our white wines.
PINOLE, PINOT NOIR
Our Pinole block has slopes that vary between 2-15%. Pinole loam is very fine, with a lot of well-draining sand and clay in which Pinot Noir vines flourish. Wine made from Pinole tends to have elegance and finesse, they are low in alcohol and high in acidity.
PERRYGULCH, PINOT NOIR

Perrygulch loam is the most dramatically sloped region of our Anderson Valley vineyards. The clay volumes are highest here, while the pH is the lowest. The vigor is also higher which tends to produce a higher concentration of flavors in the wines. This soil tends to produce powerful, concentrated, and structured wines.
